missed or irregular periods

Why do the symptoms vary so widely?
POI is a complex disease and each women diagnosed with POI may have a very unique set of health circumstances that she is dealing with in conjunction with POI. Some women that have POI may exhibit all of the commonly known symptoms, while others are largely asymptomatic. This variance of symptoms along with lack of public awareness are both reasons that contribute to misdiagnosed cases and often times undiagnosed cases. It is important for a woman to pay attention to her menstrual cycle and her body in general so that if she seeks medical help, she will be well equiped to answer the doctor’s questions.
Is it true that some women had to resign from their jobs due to POI?
Yes, this is true. Along with the devastating problem of infertility, other symptoms such as the inability to concentrate, memory loss and insomnia can make it quite difficult for some women to function at a job. For some women that have POI, this can mean putting their career on hold, changing careers or even stopping work altogether. Obviously this can be a major financial strain in a patient’s life, thus the importance of better medicines for POI and ultimately a cure cannot be stressed enough.
